Designed to enhance the visibility of El Museo del Barrio and provide community amenities, the renovation of the first floor and courtyard of the Heckscher Foundation Building will bestow a new modern entrance on New York's premier museum of Puerto Rican, Caribbean and Latin American art. Transparent glass and steel will complement the red brick exterior of the 80-year-old former orphanage El Museo calls home. The addition of a café will provide a gathering space, and the reorganization of gallery spaces will increase the visibility and accessibility of the institution at the north end of Manhattan's Museum Mile.

20 Pine, a 1920's office building in Manhattan's financial district is currently being converted into 409 apartments, with studio to 3-bedroom layouts. The developer has enlisted Armani/Casa to design the interiors marking the label’s first foray into residential living. The building, built just before the crash of 1929, used to house the headquarters of Chase Manhattan and is an austere structure, with little art-deco flash associated with its era. As a result it presents a canvas for Armani/Casa's muted palette of light earth tones and exotic woods. Units will have ebony-stained maple floors and open kitchens with concealed appliances. |
